Anvils are one of those essential but expensive blacksmithing tools. Now, not being a blacksmith exactly I was loath to buy one! So as many people have suggested, I found a piece of railroad track (which took a good fair while!) and decided to hit on it without any changes. Turns out, a bit of shaping is pretty important, and having a solid base is too. So in this build, I shape it into something like an anvil and make this sucker solid. I can't even start to reference all the videos I watched to get ideas for this, but in the end, to be honest, I ignored them all and just did my own thing. That's not something I usually do, but I found I didn't have many of the tools others were talking about and I made mine bigger then some, so their techniques just weren't relevant.
