Pruning Roses & Sowing Sweet Peas | A Valentine’s Day Tradition // Cottoverdi

Today in the garden I’m tackling one of the most important winter jobs — pruning roses. I show you how I approach both climbing roses and shrub roses, explaining where I cut and why, and hopefully taking some of the mystery out of rose pruning. Alongside that, it’s a little tradition of mine to sow my Sweet Peas on Valentine’s Day. This year I’m sowing eleven different varieties, and I’ll share how I start them off for a strong summer display. There’s something rather lovely about combining practical winter pruning with the promise of Sweet Peas to come — a reminder that even in February, we’re gardening towards the warmer months.
