About This Video

In this video, I took you guys with me off-the-lanes (but still kind of on-the-lanes) as I attended a USBC Bronze Level Coaching Certification class at Paeng’s Eastwood Bowl. This was a three-day certification facilitated by none other than Coach Paeng Nepomuceno—yes, the GOAT. I shared why I joined: I want to be a better student of the game, and I also want to be properly trained and certified before I start offering coaching, especially for beginners who message me asking if I teach. Over the three days, we went through modules like coaching pedagogy, fine-tuning the physical game, lane conditions and adjustments, the mental game, bowling ball dynamics and motion, video analysis, and even two-handed bowling (which is now part of the program). We did beginner-friendly lane drills like the staggered step, no-step drill (with and without pushaway), and the four-step drill, then ended day one with an assessment where I scored 49/50. By day three, we nerded out on ball motion, lane play strategies, and ran a trial coaching session with a volunteer bowler—real coaching reps, not just theory. Overall, it was overwhelming in the best way—so much new knowledge, but totally worth it as an investment for my game and for the community. I’m grateful to Pasig Bowling Association for helping cover part of the fee, thankful to Coach Paeng for not gatekeeping knowledge, and most of all I thank the Lord for the blessing and timing of this opportunity.
