About This Video

Let’s be real: animation is hard. If your walk looks stiff, your jump feels floaty, and you’re stuck wondering why it still looks off after a bunch of tutorials, this video is for you. In it, I break down the “cheats” pros use—not to be fraudulent, but to stop animating blindly and start working smarter. The whole point is to save time while making your motion feel more alive and believable. I cover the practical stuff first: using video reference (record yourself if you can), rotoscoping (especially when you own the footage), and onion skinning for Grease Pencil so you can track motion frame-to-frame. Then I get into Blender-side automation: constraints and drivers to let Blender do the heavy lifting, plus IK so you’re not moving bones one-by-one with FK. I also talk about interpolation and procedural animation—set strong poses, shape curves in the Graph Editor, and use noise/modifiers for background motion, camera shake, and subtle life. Finally, I zoom out: the principles of animation still matter, and if you want the biggest speed + realism boost, motion capture is the upgrade. I explain why I prefer reliable mocap hardware (like Rokoko) over credit-based AI mocap tools if you’re serious about scaling to pro-level work.
