Out here in Mexico, I’m still stuck in a spot where Starlink is the only thing that actually works for getting online. In this short update, I talk about how frustrating it’s been trying to get phone data working the “normal” way—SIM cards, eSIMs, all of it. I tested four different phones, and even when my iPhone 12 says it’s connected and working… it’s not. That “looks fine on the screen” thing is exactly what wastes your time when you’re trying to work on the road. The big takeaway: I’m calling out YESIM as a scam based on what I experienced. I tried to make it work, and it just didn’t deliver real, usable service even though the phone showed it should. So for now, Starlink is still my reliable option here, and if you’re traveling Mexico and depending on your phone for internet, don’t assume an eSIM will save you. Test everything fast, have a backup plan, and don’t trust the status bars—trust whether your internet actually loads and works when you need it.
