About This Video

If you feel like ads are everywhere on your Android—websites, apps, notifications, even your inbox—you’re not imagining it. In this video, I walk you through the exact settings I use to cut down ads fast, without installing complicated apps. And yes, those “weirdly relevant” ads often come from tracking and personalization features that are enabled by default. First, I clean up Gmail using the new “Manage subscriptions” feature, so you can unsubscribe from the sites that quietly added you to promo lists. Then we go into Android’s privacy settings to disable services that exist mainly to personalize content (aka feed you ads) like Android Personalization Services—and on some phones (especially Xiaomi), I show you how to disable MSA/System Daemon too. After that, I block ads on websites by setting an ad-blocking DNS (including Private DNS with AdGuard), and I finish by locking down Chrome settings like intrusive ads, pop-ups, and redirects. Finally, I stop ad tracking at two levels: Google (reset/delete Advertising ID) and your phone manufacturer’s own “personalized advertising” options.
