More than 850 million people around the world have no official form of identification. Without it, they can miss out on basic healthcare, education, and other essential services - especially in remote communities. In Ghana, Simprints is helping change that. Working with Arm, Simprints uses AI-powered biometric technology to help health workers reliably identify infants and connect them to the right care over time. Today, the system operates in 586 clinics and supports more than 500,000 children each year. Using Arm-powered Android smartphones and tablets, health workers capture short videos of a child’s face, ear, and sole of the foot. On-device AI performs instant quality checks and matches the child to their health record in seconds, even when the clinic is offline. When connectivity is available, encrypted biometric templates are securely synchronized to the cloud for record comparison and model updates. This edge-to-cloud approach keeps health records connected as children grow, thus ensuring fewer missed visits, reducing duplicate vaccinations, and offering better visibility into coverage gaps at a national level.
