So, what is frozen shoulder? Well, it might not always (or ever) involve a shoulder in the freezer...but don't tell my intro that. Frozen shoulder is the commonly used name for a condition seen in the shoulder known as "adhesive capsulitis". Some hallmark signs of frozen shoulder are a decrease in shoulder external rotation, abduction, and internal rotation (don't worry, the video shows what these are). 1:29 Frozen shoulder, or "adhesive capsulitis" progresses through 3 unique stages, each of which can last up to 6 months. 3 stages...3 movies...does this call for a comparison to a legendary trilogy anyone? Maybe my favourite trilogy of all time? The first stage starts with a gradual decrease in range of motion seen in the shoulder, alongside some pretty significant pain depending on the individual. This is the "freezing" stage of Frozen Shoulder. 2:08 The second stage or "frozen" stage occurs next, where the range of motion is normally at it's worst, although the pain is generally less than during the freezing stage. 2:21 Last up, the "thawing" stage. Here, the range of motion starts to get better! Usually the pain isn't more at rest than the frozen stage, although there will be some discomfort as you push back into your previous ranges of motion. 2:32 New videos go up every Monday, so if you're new around here click the link to subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications so you don't miss anything new! https://bit.ly/PhysioJonahSubscribe If you're interested in more content related to each week's video check out my Instagram page where we post further information on each weekly topic! https://www.instagram.com/aphysionamedjonah/ So why watch A Physio Named Jonah? For free videos about the human body, injuries, rehabilitation, the world of Physiotherapy, and whatever other shenanigans comes along. Maybe you can learn something new and not feel like you're stuck in a classroom waiting for the bell to ring. A Physio Named Jonah is a channel created by, well, exactly who you think. The channel features primarily Physiotherapy based topics, or things that it would make sense for a Physical Therapist to weigh in on. The goal is to make these often sterile topics interesting and easily accessible to anyone with a few laughs (or forced exhales from your nose if you're alone) along the way. Jonah is a Canadian Physiotherapist who works with a primarily outpatient orthopaedic population at a clinic in Downtown Toronto. He completed his Master's of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto, with his Bachelors of Sciences specialized in Human Kinetics coming from The University of Ottawa. He is also considered by his parents, girlfriend and dog to be a pretty cool guy. #physiotherapy #rehab #frozenshoulder #adhesivecapsulitis #physicaltherapy
