I've always been curious about how MPLS works, so I'm going to lab out a few MPLS setups for a few hours. I have both Linux and Mikrotik RotuerOS available to me, in both VMs and physical routers (a few hEX-family routers). I really do not like FRR, so we will see how much is done in FRR and how much is done in RouterOS. All of this is in the context of a service provider network, carrying customer circuits and also circuits from customers to my own BNGs. Goals, depending on time: Setup basic lab env VMs / HW Static Label Forwarding Dynamic Labels (LDP) Pseudowires BGP-Signaled MPLS SR-MPLS on Linux with FRR SR-MPLS hybrid with Linux + RouterOS (ROS only does LDP) What happened: - Used LXC in Proxmox, CRS305, and hEX S (later replaced with hAP AX S) - Static Label Forwarding works fine in Linux but could not be setup in RouterOS (bug?) - LDP worked fine in RouterOS but I spent an hour chasing issues with FRR on Linux, so I moved to only RouterOS - Psuedowires struggled very hard with re-using the same bridge in RouterOS for the underlay and overlay, but eventually worked - I ran out of time at this point
