This is the ThinkPad T480 that I converted into a Home Lab Server with Linux Ubuntu Server. I used CasaOS and many other apps installed via docker in order to test this bad boy! You can get them for about $300 here

I used a ThinkPad T480 as the base for this entire experiment because it’s cheap, upgradable enough, and Linux support is just insanely good. For about $300 you get a machine that can run Ubuntu Server, CasaOS, Docker apps, and even a Windows VM if you’re willing to push it.
Pros
+Excellent Linux compatibility out of the box
+Easy BIOS control (secure boot, boot order, power tweaks)
+Great value for a starter NAS/home lab
+Enough specs for Docker apps and basic server tasks
Cons
-Laptop CPU struggles when hosting a Windows VM + DaVinci database
-Limited RAM headroom once you stack multiple services
-Not ideal for heavy AI workloads or 4K transcoding
