About This Video

We spent a week in the Florida Keys for spring break with our four kids, and in this video I walk you through exactly how we did it—where we stayed, what we did, and what I’d do differently if you want to recreate this trip with your own family. I share the real numbers (like our flights from Milwaukee to Fort Lauderdale for $354 each), how we tried to save money with groceries (hello, Aldi stop in Miami), and the travel-day chaos that included me getting a black eye during a layover and our rental car “not existing” when we landed at 11 p.m. We started in Islamorada at Hadley House (we even got upgraded to an ocean view suite), then road-tripped down to Key West and stayed at Margaritaville Beach House in a two-bedroom suite that worked so well for a family of six—plus the kitchen space was a lifesaver. I share kid-friendly highlights like feeding tarpon at Robbie’s, stopping in Marathon for fried key lime pie, the Butterfly Conservatory, the Southernmost Point buoy, Fort Zachary Taylor, and why you should not skip the Mallory Square sunset celebration (seriously, the entertainers are hilarious). I also add a few “bonus” ideas from our earlier trip—Dry Tortugas National Park, Hemingway House, and a helicopter tour—because the Keys are honestly way more kid-friendly than you might think.
