UNBELIEVABLE Elephant Encounter - What's Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary like in 2023?

The Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand was AMAZING! It was really important to us that we visited an ethical sanctuary that didn't harm the elephants - no riding, no chains and no hooks! After researching and talking to locals we booked our half day experience. Hotel pick up was at 7am and we travelled 1.5 hours in the the back of a Toyota Ute style vehicle. As we got closer the roads were winding and dusty and it was not fun if you suffer motion sickness. But, we made it! The elephants spotted the bananas on the vehicle roof as we drove in and bellowed in excitement. Most of their food (80%) they forage for themselves but the bananas are a treat when the tourism group arrives each day. The day included mud baths, a wash in the stream and a hike to the waterfall where you could buy drinks. Afterwards we walked back to the top and had a curry chicken or sweet and sour vegetable and rice meal for lunch with some watermelon for dessert. The day was unbelievable. A definite must do travel experience that is now checked off my bucket list of things to do in Thailand and places to see in Chiang Mai. At 2pm we headed back to our hotel.
