What started as a seemingly straightforward project has turned into an obsession that's taking over my life. As I build in public, I find myself constantly thinking about the code, the animations, and the endless possibilities for improvement. The Tetris Effect in App Development Have you ever heard of the Tetris Effect? It's a phenomenon where people who play Tetris for extended periods start seeing falling blocks in their mind's eye, even when they're not playing. Well, I'm experiencing something similar with my captioning app. Even as I go about my daily life – talking to my kids, ordering coffee – I find myself visualizing captions and calculating word timings. It's as if my brain has been rewired to see the world through the lens of my app. The Double-Edged Sword of Obsession in Indie Hacking As a solopreneur, this level of focus and dedication can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it's this very obsession that allows us to create innovative solutions and push through challenges. It's what has helped me successfully build and launch smaller apps in the past – apps for tracking weight, managing allowances, and even identifying fish and insects. On the other hand, when a project grows beyond its initial scope, this same obsession can become overwhelming.
