You ARE smart enough! Don't break my heart!

I've lectured THOUSANDS of students over the last 15 years. All of them wanted to be professional accountants. All of them had career goals and dreams and aspirations. And, all of them felt, at some point, that this was achievable for them... otherwise they never would've started the journey. Yes, some have qualified, some have decided that they've found different paths that suit them better. But there are SO SO SO SO many students who have walked away from their qualification path because they failed. They're incredibly determined, and have an immense intensity for their desired goals... so why do they walk away? Mostly... because they feel that they're not 'smart enough' to make it. That their failure or struggle MEANS that they won't be able to do it. IF they had the confidence that there was a way through the struggle, that they COULD pass in the future, they'd carry on. It's not the failure that stops them, horrible as that feels. It's the fear that it MEANS that they'll probably never make it, and it's mostly put down to "Clearly I'm not smart enough". This BREAKS my heart. I desperately want students to realise that they are by FAR smart enough. They don't lack intelligence or ability... they lack some different tools. They lack some skills that they weren't taught before, that they didn't need before. Yeah... you know I'm pretty intense about my students and what I do... because I REALLY believe in you. I believe in your dreams and your goals and your determination. I WANT to see you take over the world (for good... not for evil!), I WANT to see you achieve your goals and feel that fulfilment.
