Why are exams SO stressful for us? One of the things that stress us out, that we often don't realise, is that we're not 'in control' in exams. Not in a 'control freak' way, but in a sense that you know what's happening, you're in control of what you're doing, you know how to deal with things and you are on top of stuff. We NEED that feeling. Exams take ALL the control away from us. So we feel like we're at the mercy of the exam. We have NO power, no control, we just have to 'hope for the best'. We CAN take control back... we need to build this into our studying. Learning HOW to take control back. In this video, I explain how 'losing control' impacts your marks, so that you'll consider spending more time learning how to take control back while you're studying. Practice it... Improving our growth mindset is really valuable here, because one of the reasons we feel so out of control is because our expectation going into exams is "I MUST KNOW EVERYTHING"... obviously we won't... so we stress more. If we prepare for exams knowing that we're BUILDING knowledge and skills, we have less rigid concerns about control This was an excerpt from a live session I ran for ITC (Board) Exam students to help them with their exam prep.
