The Ugly Truth Behind Child Influencers

I nearly vomited when I saw the first child influencer on my Instagram feed. Something about her very adult clothing, hairstyles, and poses made me feel queasy. As I dug deeper into the creepy, lucrative, and barely-legal world of child influencers, I discovered that there aren't any real rules against it. It's perfectly legal for you to create an account for your child influencer, post pictures, get sponsored, and earn money off the back of your hardworking child. Morally, it's extremely dubious. But legally? Any parent can profit from their own child influencer. Child influencers are kids between the ages of 2-13 that I've seen posting online. Their parents manage their accounts and income. I saw child influencers from all over the world. Some had only 10k followers. Other child influencers had over 1 million. Instagram is cool with it. YouTube doesn't care. But I find it despicable and I wanted to say something. Instagram cracks down on legal adults who pose online because it's not SFW, but allows these poor children to be exploited by their parents. The best you can do, if you're watching this video about child influencers and want to do _something_, is report the accounts you see. Instagram has a tool to report the account of any child influencer under the age of 13 if their account isn't managed by someone older. As of right now, that's the only tool available.
