Do you need to be a Medium Member to earn money writing on Medium?

Do you have to pay money to earn money on Medium? Short answer: - No! You do not. - But it helps Long answer: there are two types of membership on Medium. One is the Medium membership. You pay $5 a month and get to read unlimited stories published on Medium. The second is the medium partner program. You enroll, put your tax info in, and earn money by writing stories. You do NOT need to be a medium member to enroll in the MPP! However, I recommend it. Why? 1. Medium pays writers through the membership program. I pay $5 to read unlimited stories. Every time I read a story, a proportion of that goes to the author of the story. 2. To be successful on Medium, you need to be a good writer AND know how it works on medium. What titles work? What story structures exist? What topics are popular? I use my unlimited story reads to pay for insider info on how to succeed on Medium. Medium doesn’t need writers to pay to play - Ev Williams himself clarified this in his blog (he’s the founder of Medium). They have far, far more readers than writers - as it should be, he says. But I recommend it because a) it’s awesome to reward writers for the content they create, and b) it helps me stay on top of Medium’s trends and success stories.
