The iFi iDSD Valkyrie is a transportable DAC/amp that I kept coming back to because it’s dynamic, clear, and throws a larger stage than most dongles. The internal amp is strong enough that in many setups I didn’t feel like I needed to stack another amp, and the battery life in my use was easily 15+ hours.
Pros
- +Big, dynamic sound with strong clarity
- +Plenty of power for many planar headphones
- +Very competent internal amplification (often no extra amp needed)
- +Above-average battery life in my testing
Cons
- -No absolute volume indication (you need to watch the screen)
- -It’s transportable-sized—may be too big for some people to carry
- -Line-out placement on the back can be awkward for some portable stacks
