Northern Snakeheads NOW in My Local Lake!!! (1st CAST to CATCH On Video While Bass Fishing)

The Northern Snakehead has taken up residence in my local lake in Maryland!!! The first reported Snakehead was caught by a fisherman in April 2018 and was 28" and around 8 1/2 pounds. The fisherman also reported seeing an even larger Snakehead in the same spot! Since then, the Maryland DNR has posted signs around the lake asking the public to keep an eye out for the Snakeheads and are asking for our help to see what impact this invasive species may have on recreational fishing. As of this past week, the DNR Fisheries did a shock survey for the Snakehead in 6 location on the lake. In 5 out of 6 spots they found Snakeheads and captured 11 in total ranging from 9" to 32" with the largest weighing in at 11.2 pounds! They all had a belly full of yellow perch and other panfish and it's guesstimated that there are currently 3 generations swimming around. There have been a handful of reported catches over the past year, but while bass fishing on my birthday of all days, I may have the first cast to catch of a Northern Snakehead on video out of Little Seneca Lake in Maryland. The bass fishing was incredible and to top it off with my first Snakehead out of the lake was a great way to spend my birthday! Once again, the Finch Nasty Bait Co.
