Sam, 17, from Brighton and Charlotte, 16, from Essex go to Jamaica to live for a week under the Christian regime of the Roses. Mother Sharon is in charge, but Sam humiliates her by refusing to go to church. While Sam is sent to bed early, homesick Charlotte cries. At school, Charlotte writes a terrible piece of work, but Sam decides to make an effort. During the weekend, the teens head down to the family farm to till the soil. When they realize how little they do at home, their attitudes begin to change. Sam eventually opens up about his troubled background, and Charlotte discovers how much she takes her mother for granted. The Roses throw a farewell party and heap praise on the teens, hoping they'll change when they return to the UK.
