About This Video

When it comes to emulators, the Android version really matters—higher version means better features and compatibility. In this video, I show you how to get an Android 15 emulator running on your Windows PC, because most emulators are still stuck on older Android builds. Yes, Google Play Games is already on Android 14 and it’s great, but it’s mainly for games and you don’t get normal app access there, so I wanted an alternative that gives us the latest Android version right now. The solution I use is Android Studio. I know it’s “for developers,” but we can use it for our benefit. I walk you through downloading it, going through the install, accepting the licenses, and then switching the emulator setup to Android 15 using SDK Manager. After that, I launch it from Virtual Device Manager, power it on (it starts in a shutdown state), and you’ll see the Pixel boot animation. Once it’s running, you get Play Store access for apps and games, which is a big win compared to the Google Play Games emulator. In my testing, normal apps like Calculator worked perfectly, but games were closing automatically for me. So my takeaway is simple: use this for Android 15 features and app testing, and stick with Google Play Games if your main goal is gaming—also, try this only if you’ve got a good CPU.
