SoCal Surf Fishing – Landed My First Halibut in Rough Conditions!

In this video we head out for a day of SoCal surf fishing in Oxnard, California, where I set out specifically to target halibut from the start using a drop shot technique, and despite rough surf and heavy wind, I managed to catch my first halibut ever from the beach. I was fishing with the new Okuma Rockaway SP 11' surf rod after breaking and repairing my 10' model on the previous trip, and it handled the tough conditions surprisingly well. After struggling to keep the drop shot rig in place in the heavy current, I switched over to a heavier Carolina rig to try for barred surf perch, but the surf was just too rough to fish it effectively.
