The Real Reason You Should Use Soap on Cast Iron

They told you soap would ruin your cast iron. After 50 years, I'm here to tell you that's hogwash. In this video I'll show you the exact 2-minute soap-and-water routine I use to clean my cast iron skillet — and why I don't oil it after washing (the reason might surprise you). The fear around soap comes from 40 years ago when soap had lye in it. Modern dish soap won't touch your seasoning — and I've got a shelf full of black, slick pans to prove it.
