Did Facebook let Netflix read your DMs!?

DATA IS KING! There may or may not be relevance to the substance of a recently revealed court filing (source linked below), in which Meta has been accused of allowing Netflix to utilize user's private DMs in order to enhance their recommendation systems. However, the filing (screenshotted) does discuss the use of Meta's data for training AI/ML models. We should understand by now the fuel that makes the engine (AI models) run is data, and Companies are simultaneously protecting their work products, while also seeking ways to gather more data to make their models more intelligent. Now, knowing that companies like Alphabet, Meta, Snapchat, and so on have been using our data to enhance their business isn't something new. We all breeze and provide affirmative acceptance or accept through our use of their website (legal definition screenshotted) of the Ts & Cs without fully knowing what's in them (see South Park S15e1). However, the use of that data has mostly been within a narrow scope (e.g., ad recommendations). What will be interesting to see is how the Ts and Cs of these platforms that are so well engrained into our lives may adjust to allow the gathering of more and more data. In law, this is often referenced as a "slipperly slope," when something is allowed and continues to creep in a direction you may not want.
