I'm fascinated by the once grand resorts that scatter the coast of Britain. The epic Victorian hotels that line the seafront, the nostalgia and the kitsch draw me in. However, the crumbling and decaying reality of the mostly redundant towns of present day seaside Britain fascinates me. I thought I had visited the worst of Britain's seaside towns in places such as Blackpool, Clacton, Weston-super-Mare and Great Yarmouth. They are pretty sad reflections of their former selves. Imagine my surprise when I happened across a Which? survey which named a remote Welsh town as being voted as BRITAIN'S WORST SEASIDE TOWN! I'd barely heard of Bangor, let alone knew anything bout it as a seaside town. Nestled just below the Island of Anglesey and a short drive from my holiday caravan in Llandudno, I had to investigate. Surely this sleepy Welsh town could not be worse than the den of iniquity that is Blackpool? Is this really the worst seaside town in Britain in 2024?
