I had discovered that my knowledge of the history of the troubles in Northern Ireland was minimal, and I felt compelled to learn of the difficult story and bring my viewers along with me. I was embarrassed I knew so little about a bloody armed conflict within my own nation during my lifetime. I learned a lot from the people I talked to in Belfast. However, I also discovered that the legacy of the troubles can indeed be fundamentally traced back to the westerly city of Derry/Londonderry. This charming and historic walled city was the site of the infamous Battle Of The Bogside in 1969 and Bloody Sunday in 1972.. defining events of the troubles. What I found in Derry on this trip is a very friendly place that welcomed me with open arms. I met many people personally affected by the troubles who are now moving forward to heal the wounds of the tragic past for a more inclusive peaceful future. Join me as I meet the wonderful and courageous people of Derry (I even got to interview the mayor 🤣)! #derry #londonderry #northernireland #thetroubles #conflict #religion #catholic #protestant #britain #ireland
