Step back to the early 1900s and see exactly how legendary outdoorsman Horace Kephart carried fire in the field. In this video, I recreate his 1910 fire kit based on his writings in Camping and Woodcraft — a compact, reliable system for making fire anywhere. Kephart insisted every camper should “carry fire in his pocket.” His kit included: A waterproof match safe filled with paraffined wooden matches. A small tinder tin with birch bark, resin, and charred cloth. A flint & steel set as a backup ignition method. A candle stub, useful for starting fires in wet conditions. We’ll walk through each item, explain its purpose, and demonstrate how Kephart’s approach to firecraft still works today. 👉 Subscribe to WayPoint Survival for more classic woodcraft, survival skills, and vintage outdoor wisdom. #Bushcraft #ClassicCamping #SurvivalSkills #Woodcraft #OutdoorTips #Kephart Link for purchase of WayPoint Survival Phase 1 Digital Class: https://waypointsurvival.com/digital-course/ For more information on classes, to check out the required gear list, or buy Merch go to: https://waypointsurvival.com/ To support our work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/WayPointSurvival Here's a link to my Teespring Merchandise: https://teespring.com/shop/WayPoint_Survival?tsmac=recently_viewed&tsmic=recently_viewed&pid=212&cid=5819
