The Alexander Meiklejohn Lecture: “Post-Legality: What Follows a Collapse in the Rule of Law?”

This year, University of Chicago Law Professor Aziz Huq delivers “Post-Legality: What Follows a Collapse in the Rule of Law?” In his lecture, Huq will explore how constitutional orders respond when legal institutions weaken or fail, raising pressing questions about democratic resilience, institutional design, and civic responsibility. The lecture links Meiklejohn’s legacy of free inquiry to contemporary debates about the future of the rule of law in America and beyond. Alexander Meiklejohn Lecture was named for civil libertarian, Brown alumnus, and former Brown dean Alexander Meiklejohn, and focuses on the theme of freedom and the U.S. Constitution. Meiklejohn graduated from Brown in 1893, and served as its dean from 1901 to 1912.
