In this workshop I paint a couple of Swedish landscapes in a really beginner-friendly way—simple shapes first, then we build up the light, the mid tones, and the dark accents. I’m using two photo references (linked on my site) and I’ll show you how I simplify them so you’re not copying every detail. The goal is to keep things calm and practical: big washes for sky and ground, then smaller brushwork for trees, distant buildings, and those little contrast notes that make the scene read. As we go, I focus on the stuff that actually helps beginners: keeping the values clear, reserving a few light areas, and letting the water do some of the work instead of over-brushing. If you’re new to landscape watercolour, this is a great one to follow along with—especially if you want that loose, fresh look without getting overwhelmed.
