In this quick 3-minute paint-along, I show you how I block in a simple beach scene in watercolour—fast, loose, and beginner-friendly. The goal isn’t to over-detail it; it’s to capture the feeling of the shoreline with a few confident washes. I keep the shapes big and readable: sky, sea, sand, and that thin, bright edge where the water meets the beach. Because it’s a short, I focus on the essentials: getting a clean horizon, using watery mixes for the first pass, and letting the paint do the work. I also lean into timing—when to drop in slightly stronger colour for the ocean band, and when to leave areas alone so you don’t get muddy blooms everywhere. If you’re new to watercolour, this is a great exercise for learning wash control, soft edges, and how to suggest waves without painting every ripple.
