Today’s video is not our typical video, it’s not upbeat, and I almost decided not to make it. I finally decided to make this video to pay honor to my potential relatives that died in the Holocaust. Julie and I went to the Auschwitz Concentration Camp to be able to bear witness to what occurred there, as well as to honor the memory of those that were killed and tortured. Unexpectedly we learned I probably had five Polish relatives die at Auschwitz, one in Dachau, and one very probable relative died in another camp called Bergen-Belsen. (None were Jewish) My Great Grandfather Alexander Mnich was from the village of Rudniki, near Sandomierz Poland, the same village as Mateusz Mnich. (We learned after the video released, Mateusz Mnich was my Great Grandfather’s older Brother) MATEUSZ MNICH Sex: m [Male] Date of Birth: 13 Aug 1875 Place of Birth: Rudniki Date of Death: 6 Feb 1945 Death Place: Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp Thirteen other Mnich’s had their names found In Holocaust records as victims. One Mnich relative was potentially a hero. GABRIEL MNICH Lived in Stryj during the German occupation and worked as a driver. He transported over 200 Jews to the Hungarian border and transported others from town to town. Arrested by the Gestapo, he managed to bribe one of the Gestapo men and escape from prison. The report is accompanied by a statement by Wiktor Mamak, which confirms that the author was transporting Jews at risk of his life. Today we visit the Auschwitz Concentration camp located near Krakow Poland. The camp is a reminder of an evil past, it's the location where over 1 million people perished. Seventy-seven years after WWII history revisionists try to deny the atrocities or minimalize them. We visited Auschwitz to bear witness to the events of the past and to pay respect to the victims. The 1.1 million people killed at Auschwitz were primarily Jewish but there were other Nazi undesirable groups as well, to include Poles, Roma, Soviet Prisoners, Homosexuals, and Jehovah's Witnesses. Of the 6 million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust, 1 million were gassed, shot, hanged, and cremated at Auschwitz. Many Poles were also murdered in the camps as well. Poland lost 17% of their population during WWII, and Poles were a group to be exterminated after Germany's Nazis killed off the Jewish population to open up more land for German colonists. This is a different video than we normally produce, I hope it is found to be accurate and done respectfully for all the innocent victims of the Nazi's Holocaust. Krakow, Gdansk, Warsaw, and many other cities in Poland have many foreigners calling the country home. Poland offers a reasonable cost of living and great quality of life. The average US Retiree on Social Security receives $1,550 a month, and a couple on Social Security receives over $2,500 a month. A US Expat living on Social Security if allowed could expect a lower cost of living in Poland when compared to the living costs in the US. Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option. We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along. #poland #Auschwitz #holocaust Music: Lovely Piano Song Musician: Rafael Krux Site: https://freepd.com/ License: https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/legalcode
