In this video I’m testing and reviewing the FireMaple Hornet 2—a very lightweight, budget-friendly gas stove system with advanced wind protection that’s clearly aimed at solo hikers. We’ve used FireMaple gear before on the channel, so I wanted to see how this newer setup performs in real cooking conditions and whether it’s actually a smart choice for a simple backpacking kit. I walk you through the main specs, how the pot and stove work together, and what you should realistically expect from this system on the trail. One important thing with the Hornet 2 is that the pot and stove come separately, and I talk about the pros and cons of that approach. FireMaple also offers several stove options that can work with this pot, so you can build the setup that fits your style and budget. I show the performance, highlight what I like (especially for windy conditions), point out the weaknesses, and then give my final opinion—who I think this system is perfect for, and who should look at something else.
