Body camera footage shows Lakewood suspect's arrest for attempted kidnapping of 2-year-old girl

For some residents who visit Lakewood's Madison Park, an attempted kidnapping in broad daylight has raised concerns. "I think Lakewood is a good community, and the fact that this is happening in such a good community is definitely shocking," said Cadence Collins, a Lakewood resident. "I think there should be more safety somehow." According to the Lakewood Police Department, it happened just after 10 a.m. on Friday, June 19. Captain Frank Eschweiler said a nanny called police after a man allegedly tried to take the two-year-old girl she was watching. "The 2-year-old was probably 5 or 6 feet in front of her, and she'd heard somebody closing in on her, and the male came up, grabbed a little girl by the hand. She was able to grab the other hand of the girl and get her back," Eschweiler told 3News. "It is very alarming that this happened in broad daylight." Eschweiler said the nanny quickly pulled the child away and reported that the suspect, dressed in all black, fled south from the park. Marilica Gonzalez told us she was there when it happened. "It was just a lot of commotion," Gonzalez said. "Just people everywhere around the park saying, like, 'What happened?'"
