Jazz on Sunday is back — Two long-overdue reissues of 1970s masterworks from Muse Records, brought back to vinyl by Time Traveler Recordings. A 40-year compositional obsession finally completed and pressed. The Blue Note suite that announced a new generation. And Nels Cline in full jazz mode with one of the most democratic-sounding quartet records of the year. 🎵 RECORDS REVIEWED THIS EPISODE: 1. Woody Shaw — Love Dance (1976 / 2026) Label: Time Traveler Recordings (orig. Muse Records) Reissue: Muse Master Edition Series | 180g | Pressed at Optimal Media, Germany One of the great post-bop trumpeters of his generation — and one of the most underrated. Originally produced by Michael Cuscuna. This is the first-ever vinyl reissue of this record. New liner notes by Dan Morgenstern. Mastered from original analog tapes by Matthew Lutthans. 2. Joe Chambers — Double Exposure (1978 / 2026) Label: Time Traveler Recordings (orig. Muse Records) Reissue: Muse Master Edition Series | 180g | Pressed at Optimal Media, Germany A rare duo session — Joe Chambers on piano (his first instrument), with the legendary Larry Young on Hammond B3. Young's final studio recordings before his death in March 1978. New liner notes by Bill Milkowski. Same analog mastering specs as the Shaw. 3. John Vanore & Abstract Truth — Easter Island Suite (2026) Label: Acoustical Concepts (AC-160) Double LP | 180g audiophile pressing | Side 4 intentionally blank A four-movement suite 40 years in the making — the first movement was recorded in 1989, the final movement in 2024. Gil Evans and Maria Schneider are the obvious touchstones. Large ensemble post-bop at its most cinematic. (Record provided by the artist/label for review) 4. Immanuel Wilkins — The 7th Hand (2022) Label: Blue Note Records Double LP | Seven movements | ~58 minutes The album that confirmed Wilkins as the most important young voice in jazz today. Alto saxophone, working quartet, plus Elena Pinderhughes on flute and the Farafina Kan Percussion Ensemble. Spiritual jazz for the 21st century — rooted in Coltrane, built entirely in the present. 5. Nels Cline — Consentrik Quartet (2025) Label: Blue Note Records Double LP | 12 tracks | ~65 minutes With Ingrid Laubrock (sax), Chris Lightcap (bass), and Tom Rainey (drums). Chamber jazz meets avant-garde meets rock DNA — and Cline disappears into the ensemble the whole time. One of the finest records of his long career. Vinyl Rundown covers jazz, soul, funk, and beyond — with a focus on the records, the pressings, and what makes them worth your time and shelf space. New episodes every Sunday.
