Is the new Lenovo Legion 5a still good for gamers? Specs are good but real use is better, especially if you’re a student. Check out my thoughts and let me know what you think. About This Video

If you’re heading into a STEM major (or you’re already deep in one), you already know the laptop struggle is real. In this video I got hands-on with Lenovo’s new Legion 5A to see if it can actually pull double duty: run the stuff you need for school—IDE work, simulations, even some 3D rendering—and still be a legit gaming machine when you’re done for the day. This isn’t a full review, but I wanted to see what it can do (and what it can’t), especially if you’re not trying to spend Legion 7A money. What I like right away is the vibe: it doesn’t scream “gamer.” It’s clean, minimal, and at 4.14 lbs it’s way easier to carry than most gaming laptops. You still get a comfy full-size keyboard, solid IO (including USB-C power delivery), and a really nice 15.3-inch OLED 165Hz display. Performance-wise, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 handled my multitasking and even my “vibe coding” in VS Code without issues, and Blender ran surprisingly smooth with a detailed scene. For gaming, the RTX 5060 is mid-range on paper, but Apex was buttery smooth around the 150 FPS range on mostly high settings—and the fans stayed pretty chill. Battery is solid for classes with the 80Wh pack, but don’t expect to game on battery all day. Overall, starting at $1,500, it feels like a strong STEM-student contender that you can upgrade later (RAM and dual NVMe).
