I love metal detecting! It is a bit of a joke regarding the costs to get into this hobby vs. the returns - but its not just about the value of finds. There have been many days that I have found valuable lost jewelry - rings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, etc - but the finds are only part of the fun. Metal Detecting gives me a reason to get outside and get in some exercise and sunshine. I have met a lot of intrigued people and have been able to explain how a metal detector works and show them active target finds and treasures right in front of them. My daughter loves any excuse to get out to a park to play. My favorite rig lately is the Manticore - the flagship detector from Minelab. I use the M9 coil as it is the lighest and most versatile.
