In this video I show you exactly how I set up a Plex Media Server so it actually works the way you want—fast, reliable, and accessible from any device on your home network, and also when you’re away from home. Let’s be honest, streaming sucks right now: prices keep going up, ads are everywhere, and the content quality is worse than ever. That’s why I run my own Plex library (mine is over 2,000 movies and TV shows), but Plex can be hit or miss if your network setup isn’t dialed in. The big fixes are simple, but you cannot skip them. First, I find my Plex server’s IP address in my router client/MAC list and then I lock it in with a DHCP reservation so it never changes. After that, I port forward TCP 32400 to that server IP, and inside Plex Remote Access I manually set the public port to 32400 to match. I also show the exact network/transcoder/web quality settings I use, plus how to fix the “server not showing up” problem by signing in correctly (and using plex.tv/link on TVs and streaming devices). Finally, I share quick troubleshooting tips for the red remote access glitch, VPN issues, and what to check after updates or power outages.
