In this video I walk you through how I built a true multi-gig home network from scratch using my own upgrade from 1 gig fiber to 2 gig fiber as the real-world example. I explain what the ONT is (it’s kind of like a modem, but not really), why your network instantly becomes the bottleneck if your switches are still 1 gig, and exactly what I upgraded to get everything ready for 2.5 gig across the house. I cover the core hardware you need—multi-gig router, 2.5G switches (including PoE for access points), and the right Ethernet cabling (Cat 6 or Cat 6A minimum).
