Every yoga posture can be performed and practiced many different ways, depending on our intentions and areas of focus. This video shows one way to perform a forward fold, which can be applied to many different yoga postures involving a forward folding action (downward dog etc) Maintaining a straight back and solid core allows us to stretch and open our hamstrings faster, more effectively and without causing any imbalances to our back muscles. It also ensures we stretch our lower backs correctly once we have opened up the hamstrings. Also, a straight back means no compression of our breathing equipment (lungs) so we can maintain a strong meditative breath using full lungs whilst doing yoga postures.
