Emmy Award-winning director of photography (DoP) Neville Kidd talks about the craft of cinematography and why every shot has to be a still in its own right. Neville, who was DoP on Sherlock, Doctor Who and Outlander, is talking to BAFTA-nominated producer Marcus Wilson (Luther, Doctor Who, The A Word, Life on Mars). He discusses why changing lenses on a 3D rig is so challenging and how he builds a world with the production designer and works with a gaffer. Neville also gives his top piece of advice for people entering the camera department and for ways of preparing for a career in the industry during the Covid-19 lockdown. The session, recorded on 6 May 2020, is part ScreenSkills HETV Skills Fund's series of online expert-led learning sessions, to support freelancers in developing their skills in high-end television (HETV) during the coronavirus crisis. It was introduced by Kaye Elliott, ScreenSkills HETV director.
