Masterclass: Mobeen Azhar, building a portfolio career

Journalist and filmmaker, Mobeen Azhar, talks to Channel 4's creative diversity lead, Babita Bahal, in this masterclass hosted on Zoom about his career progression, moving between media mediums and how anyone can build a portfolio career. Mobeen talks about how traditional production structures are no longer the only option and how to work effectively across multiple kinds of media and projects at once. He also provides advice on how you can develop your skillset in order to be able to reach your career goals. Mobeen Azhar is an award-winning journalist who makes access-based documentaries across TV and radio. Mobeen’s accolades include a BAFTA, a Grierson Award and a Royal Television Society (RTS) Award. Most recently, he received his second RTS Award as Presenter of the Year for the series Hometown. This Masterclass was supported by the ScreenSkills Television Skills Fund which invests in training for the freelance television workforce thanks to contributions from the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5. It was part of a ScreenSkills programme designed by media consultant Donna Taberer to support freelancers to upskill and stay connected, helping keep the industry resilient in the coronavirus crisis.
