The Kelty Discovery Base Camp 4 is my no-nonsense budget pick that still does the job. It’s a traditional crossed-pole tent that went up easily for me, and the rainfly coverage is smarter than a lot of cheap tents that leave windows exposed to wind-driven rain. It’s not the tallest and it’s not built to last forever at $120, but it’s a great first tent or a beater you won’t stress about.
