Discover with us interesting facts about the Drottningholm Palace. The beautiful Drottningholm Palace, also called the Versailles of the North, is located about 12 km from the capital Stockholm. Construction started in the 16th century, and it is currently the private residence of the Swedish royal family. The rooms in the southern wing of the palace are reserved for this purpose. The rest of the palace and grounds are a popular tourist attraction, open to the public year-round. The palace is one of the most stunning examples of an 18th-century Northern European royal residence inspired by magnificent French Architecture. It is one of the few 18th-century theaters in Europe still in use as a theater with its original stage apparatus, and its summer opera festivals are exceedingly popular.
