In this video, I break down what skin tags on dogs are, what they look like, and why they’re usually nothing to panic about. Skin tags are small, benign growths that can show up on any dog—any breed, age, or gender. I explain the common shapes you might notice (small circular bumps, long thin growths, or flatter tags) and the big takeaway: skin tags aren’t cancerous, they’re generally harmless, and they’re not contagious. That said, I always tell dog owners not to ignore new lumps. I walk you through what I monitor at home—how fast it’s growing, whether there’s discoloration, and if there’s any inflammation. I also talk about what we do (and don’t) know about causes. There isn’t enough scientific research in dogs, but outside factors can increase risk, like parasites (and the scratching/inflammation they cause), neglected skin care that leads to dry itchy skin, and poor diet that weakens the immune system and skin health.
