Sinocentrism and Southeast Asia

Against the backdrop of shifts in U.S. international engagement along with Xi Jinping’s recent trip to Southeast Asia, the significance of understanding Sinocentrism in Southeast Asia takes on a new importance. Joseph Chinyong Liow, the Tan Kah Kee Chair in Comparative and International Politics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, will join Gilbert Rozman and Danielle Cohen to discuss Xi’s strategic thinking as it pertains to Southeast Asia and how it has evolved over time, moderated by Yun Sun. Gilbert Rozman, Yun Sun, and Danielle Cohen are co-authors of Xi Jinping’s Quest for a Sinocentric Asia, 2013-2024, a new book drawing from Chinese language sources to ascertain Xi’s strategic thinking and how it has evolved in a comprehensive analysis of Chinese foreign policy.
