CCC-SLP, BCS-CL Book a 1:1 Consultation or 30 minute Parent Q & A! https://thespeechscoop.com/ Connect with me! https://www.instagram.com/thespeechscoop/?hl=en https://thespeechscoop.com/ https://www.amazon.com/shop/thespeechscoop https://linktr.ee/thespeechscoop How do I get a child to talk in phrases or combine words (put words together)? 1) Check YOUR speech/language +MODEL 2 WORD PHRASES 2) Create a word list over 2 days! - write down all words that you child says spontaneously/indepedently 3) ADD IN VERBS! 4) Give OPTIONS and MODEL the options for them - EAT cookie or DOWN cookie?! - use brother/sister/dad/grandma to model and provide positive reinforcement (cookies/gummies/toys for them) - use same strategies when playing/modeling with TOYS! PLAY PLAY PLAY! 5) Try to get away from academic words like colors, shapes and letters, INSTEAD model and push FUNCTIONAL communication words! (i.e. I'm hungry! Eat cracker! 6) Use onomatopoeias! (i.e. which EYES do you want, BLUE eyes or RED eyes?! Combining 2 familiar words!) ****KIDS NEED 50 SPONTANEOUS WORDS PRIOR TO COMBINING WORDS*** 8) Create a verbal routine or play routine using an "anchor" words - use a visual with the word (BYE, like "bye hat! bye shoes! By star!) 9) Use prepositions (IN, OUT) and/or action words (more verbs) 10) Use POSSESSION! (i.e "MY milk! MY ball! MY Bubbles!) BE SILLY! Hope these tips and tricks helped!
