HOW TO GET A CHILD TO LISTEN & FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AT HOME: Easy Toddler Tips from a Speech Therapist

Kids typically begin following simple instructions, consistently, between 12-18 months, and 2 step verbal instructions at 18-24 months! Thanks for liking, sharing and subscribing! 🙃 EASY WAYS to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS: Social Games and Activities: Peek - a -boo / ring around the rosey / happy and you know it clap your hands "Tell them, show them, help them" model by Laura Mize at Teach Me to Talk IN, OUT, UNDER, NEXT TO, BETWEEN - (spatial) MAKE IT FUN ***UPDATED 10/24/21: when using the HELP THEM model, ensure that you are ASKING your child if it is okay to help them! If they say no or do not respond, continue to model for them visually yourself or video yourself and show your child this video! (Recent studies show that autisic children learn a lot of skills from watching real people complete tasks or activities!) Set a timer - make a fun sound - use simplified language TELL THEM - "Put Eggs IN" SHOW THEM - WATCH MOMMY - PUT EGGS IN HELP THEM - using Hand under hand or visual modeling FIRST / THEN model use a sparingly and with easily achievable tasks that are prefered.
