I had so much inspiration and fun this week, making my fashion wearable art jacket from a thrifted pajama shirt, scraps of fabric, and upcycled quilt and sewn pieces. I used vintage fabric, slow stitching, embrodiery, pieced fabric blocks, applique, lace, and lots of love. I cut the pajama shirt along the sides, removing the sleeves and added panels made from an upcycled, thrifted, quilt piece to create a lightweight summer kimona style jacket. Most of this jacket is handstitched with embrodiery thread, parts of it machine sewn. The entire jacket can be made just hand sewing if a sewing machine is not available. I used several hand stitching styles, including whip stitch, blanket stitch, sashiko stitching, and hand quilting. I then dyed my jacket using the tea dying method and added a splash of Rite dye for a rosey hue. I love how this jacket turned out! A big shout out to Tracey @tmyershandmade978 for the wonderful inspiration. #fridaysews #Simplicity #winter #handmade #Upcycle #sew #Handmade #sustainable clothing #recycle #thriftflip MORE VIDEOS TO WATCH ON MY CHANNEL : ❤️Self Drafted Spring Tops https://youtu.be/oK-9cU2idKg?si=Dk5TrCCguv4Vfzlt 🩷Sewing an Anthroplogie Style Top https://youtu.be/Mz2cHR4A6KE?si=amDqONOFimNqTod2 ❤️https://www.youtube.com/live/Bfk15aI3ADQ?si=zVkjEn2pbuhc-MBE JoAnn Fabric Sale and Haul https://youtu.be/Xlve-IYQR2Q?si=PUUZOyszuGXWRjZD Upcycle Carribean Cruise https://youtu.be/-UyOYt-F9PE?si=bSa2HQb_nwfKjivj Tour of my Tiny Sewing Trailer https://youtu.be/ypG4Lij-61U?si=V0edyonHraxI7Bbt Channels I follow: @TodayinJensSewingRoom @ZeldaSews @AdamSews @hoosierhandmade22 @shesewsseams @sewlovelywithgrace @SewLetsSparkleWithSam @The_Gemini_Stitcher @dineincreativity @Janesdresses COME FOLLOW ME: Instagram: Lesley_thesewingcircle Want to send me mail? About This Video

This week I had so much inspiration and fun making a patchwork, vintage, bohemian jacket that feels like wearable art. I started with a thrifted pajama shirt as my base, then cut it open along the sides, removed the sleeves, and turned it into an easy, lightweight summer kimono-style shape. From there, I built it up with panels made from an upcycled quilt piece, plus all my favorite bits and bobs—scraps, vintage fabric, lace, applique, and plenty of cozy, slow-stitching love. Most of this jacket is hand-stitched (with a little machine sewing where it made sense), so you can absolutely make something similar even if you don’t have a sewing machine. I used whip stitch, blanket stitch, sashiko-style stitching, and hand quilting to join pieces, add texture, and make the whole thing feel intentional and artsy. To finish it off, I tea-dyed the jacket and then added a little splash of Rit dye for a rosy hue. I also want to give a big shout-out to Tracey (@tmyershandmade978) for the wonderful inspiration—this one was a joy from start to finish.
