Bikes and bike parts are not made in the United States anymore. It’s far too expensive, and the manufacturing infrastructure for the bike industry exists in Asia. That is the common wisdom, and generally the rule - but there are exceptions, and in this video I speak to the CEOs and others at a few brands that are making carbon fiber bikes or wheels or parts here in the US. Why build here? Do cyclists care about where stuff is made? What are the tradeoffs for domestic manufacturing versus outsourcing abroad? This is part 3 in my series 'Why your bike is made in Asia.' Part 1 is an interview with Bill McGann, who watched the US and Europe - in his words - squander the bike industry to Asia. https://youtu.be/FpjB2k481_E Part 2 consists of interviews with CEOs and other high level executives at major bike brands - many of them under condition of anonymity - about how Trump's proposed tariffs could affect where they make their bikes and gear. https://youtu.be/AU6vWJri9GA Here in Part 3, I speak to: Drew Medlock, CEO of Allied Cycle Works in Arkansas Anne Hed, CEO of Hed Cycling in Minnesota Ben Farver, founder of Argonaut Cycles in Oregon Hans Heim, CEO of Ibis Cycles in California and Chad Davis, brand manager of Gulo Composite in North Carolina -- The Ride is supported in 2024 by: Castelli clothing: http://tinyurl.com/43k6pftp Perc Coffee: https://tinyurl.com/fjr7nurr (save 15% with code 'ride15') Giro helmets: http://tinyurl.com/72svzzxp Silca maintenance: https://bit.ly/47xxvzj (save 10% with code 'theridewithben10') First Endurance nutrition: https://bit.ly/41SDgqq (save 20% with code 'THERIDE') Shimano shoes & glasses: http://tinyurl.com/ye274tep Feedback Sports stands & tools: https://bit.ly/3S9Dq8r -- 0:00 intro 2:10 Allied Cycle Works 13:25 HED Cycling 27:28 Argonaut Cycles 35:42 Ibis Cycles 55:39 Gulo Composites
