But of course you guys want to know if it is any good, and that’s what we’ll find out in this video. And just to reveal some things up front, I do think for some people this ring could be the way to go, but it is very important you are aware of its limitations. But let’s start with discussing what this device can actually do. The Helio Ring is very similar to all smartrings on the market, it’s basically a smartwatch minus the screen on your finger. As most of you will know, Oura pioneered or at least popularized this concept, and they are the market leader at the moment with the Oura Ring. The Oura Ring is indeed the best smartring out of all rings I’ve tested, but it is also the most expensive. Not because the device itself is so expensive, but because they charge a 6 dollar monthly subscription. So, it would be great if there was an alternative like the Helio Ring, that would be amazing. But the helio ring has big shoes to fill if it wants to replace the Oura Ring. So let’s first look at the App it provides, is that experience any good. And luckily the app design is pretty good, it’s actually suspiciously similar to the Whoop app. The Whoop Strap is a very popular health tracker, similar to the Oura Ring and Helio Ring, but in the form of a strap. So it makes sense Helio would steal from the best. The Zepp app that the Helio Ring uses has 4 main tabs, “overview”, “readiness”, “sleep” and “exertion”; so let’s see what tabs Whoop strap’s app looks like. Whoop has 4 main tabs called “overview”, “sleep”, “recovery” and “strain”. So those are not exactly the same, but “exertion” is very similar to “strain ”, and “readiness” is very similar to “recovery”. And it’s actually the Oura Ring who uses the term “readiness” as one of their main metrics. The overall design and metrics in each of these tabs of the Zepp are also very similar to design of the Whoop strap, like very very similar. Let’s take a look at the sleep statistics of Whoop vs the Sleep Metrics of Zepp for instance. It’s more or less a carbon copy of the design of Whoop. So, that’s both good and bad, since I really design of the Whoop app, but it feels a bit unfair to just directly copy something. Now, this is me assuming that Whoop came up with this design first, which I think is pretty likely, but if I’m wrong, please let us know in the comments below, and I’ll add that as the pinned comment in this video.
